Description

The new Western Australian P-10 Digital Technologies Curriculum has landed and with it comes a new set of outcomes and learning standards for students. For many teachers, this also means developing a new skillset, understanding new technology tools and unpacking frameworks in order to support students to develop the key skills of Design Thinking, Systems Thinking and Computational Thinking. Explore the technology tools, resources and lesson ideas freely available to educators and learn just how easy it is to get started with supporting beginner all the way through to advance coders in your classroom.
We will consider how Microsoft tools can support teachers to develop collaborative units of work and provide you with online resources and templates.
In this hands-on session, we will use the BBC micro-bit and explore ways that this can be used to support the digital technologies curriculum and ideas for cross-curricular projects.
The BBC micro:bit is an inexpensive pocket-sized computer that you can code, customise and control to bring your digital ideas, games and apps to life.
You can code the micro:bit with visual block-based programming or general-purpose programming languages such as JavaScript or Python, making this an ideal tool for both primary and secondary students.
The super easy, non-intimidating user experience and extensive wireless and sensor features mean it can be used across the school, including curriculum subjects such as science, design, maths, music, art and computing.

Attendees will have hands-on time learning the exciting features of the micro:bit and explore lesson activities for students to invent, plan and create digital solutions with applications across the curriculum.

This workshop is suitable for Y5-Y8 teachers who are teaching or integrating the WA Digital Technologies curriculum. Please bring a laptop.
