Description

Creating independent learners is a worthy goal in itself but it is also an essential component to successful reading lessons. Lessons that enable teachers to teach guided reading effectively and students to learn to their best ability.

Have you organised reading rotations so your guided reading sessions can run smoothly only to have your best plans break down as students struggle to work independently?
This workshop is suitable for all primary teachers and explores the Daily 5 and the Daily Cafe (Boushey and Moser) which is a classroom management approach for literacy lessons that foster student independence. The session will explore how teachers can establish:
A literacy classroom management system for reading and writing workshops.
A classroom routine that enables differentiation.
A system of five literacy tasks that teaches independence and builds stamina.
A look at the daily Cafe that can be used to ensure links to curriculum and desired learning goals for students.

The Daily Five will be of benefit to all teachers of literacy in primary school.  For those who have participated in SHARP READING training, the structure of the Daily Five will facilitate the delivery of a robust guided reading program.

Schools are also encouraged and invited to contact AISWA to have this workshop take place in their school.
