Description

Since its inception in 2012, the successful AISWA Principals as Numeracy Leaders (PANL) Project has involved over 65 AISWA schools. We are inviting all AISWA Schools to register to participate in this project during semester 1 2017.

The PANL Project, is a comprehensive research based project to assist principals/school leaders and lower primary years teachers, develop knowledge and skills to positively alter teaching and learning in numeracy. The key goal of this project is to lift whole school performance in numeracy in all schools, whatever their context may be.  The project will again be delivered by AISWA Numeracy Consultants.

The project will deliver four professional development modules to school leaders and key numeracy staff in a series of an initial two consecutive days, followed by two single professional learning days.

These modules will enhance knowledge in:

Module 1

Leadership of teaching and learning in numeracy

Mon Feb 27 2017

Module 2

Numeracy content – The numeracy “big ideas” (concentrating on number – Australian  Curriculum)

Tue  Feb 28 2017

Module 3

Developing whole school approaches to numeracy using quality evidence

Wed  Mar 29 2017

Module 4

Designing interventions in numeracy

Fri    May 26 2017

The module delivery will be completed by the end of week 5 term 2, but schools will have the collegial support services of AISWA numeracy consultants throughout 2017, to assist with any numeracy planning. For each ‘delivery’ block, there will be school-based tasks that prepare participants for upcoming modules and/or encourage consolidation of understandings from previous modules.

As the project has evolved, it has been observed that the greatest effect for schools participating in the Project is achieved when the school leader, Principal/Head of Primary, a key numeracy person and an F-3 teacher, attend together for all four modules. Thus, three staff per school is recommended.

The cost for the four day project includes the PANL participant course file, ongoing support from AISWA Numeracy Consultants, catering and several reference books per school. The fee, based on a cost recovery model, will be $480 per person ($120 per person per day).  AISWA will be paying for the delivery costs.

Participants must commit to attending ALL four modules and preparing for and completing school-based tasks around each module.

Please note that any staff relief needed to cover attendance for the professional learning modules will be met by the schools.

For more information about this project please contact David Dunstan at ddunstan@ais.wa.edu.au or telephone 0457 767 881.
