Description

Participants will explore the world of 3D design using Tinkercad - a free and comprehensive online platform that can be effectively used in primary and secondary school classrooms. The workshop will introduce the core concepts of 3D modeling in Tinkercad and task participants to modify pre-existing projects and create their own. The session will also demonstrate how Tinkercad can be to simulate electronics prototypes and incorporate coding into the design process.

This workshop also seeks to provide an overview of core concepts of 3D printing and how it can be used to redefine students' learning experiences. This workshop is underpinned by the idea that students should be creative users of technology, therefore, it will highlight how 3D printing can be used to facilitate this process.

It is anticipated that this hands-on workshop is most appropriate for teachers engaged in STEM, Design and Technologies or Digital Technologies. However, the concepts covered are not exclusive to these areas.

Note:
The duration of this workshop is 3 hours. A second session will be run directly after the conclusion of this workshop. As an example of how concepts developed in this session can be applied in the classroom, the second session runs participants through the process of creating their own 3D designed, printed and wired computer keyboard. For those interested in this session, you may find it beneficial, but not mandatory, to attend both sessions.
