About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists at our Secondary campus, we are seeking to employ two suitability qualified Special Needs Education Assistant, Certificate IV preferable. Both positions are fixed term contracts for Long Service Leave cover: 
Position 1 – 1.0FTE for remainder of Term 2 and all of Term 3
Position 2 – 0.8FTE (Tuesday to Friday) for Term 3 only

 

Special Needs Education Assistant
Special Needs Assistants carry out duties as directed by the Head of Secondary and work under the guidance of the Learning Enrichment Coordinator and/or classroom teacher as designated by the Head of Secondary.

 

Special Needs Assistants need to meet the special needs of the student(s) in his/her care and to assist in the delivery of relevant educational programmes.

Special Needs Assistants are required to, under the guidance of the classroom teacher:

  • Develop resources, visual schedules etc to assist the student/ students in supporting their learning. 

  • Implement strategies that will promote independent work habits for student/ students in your care.

  • Undertake professional learning related to the student/students disability to broaden their personal knowledge and gain a deeper insight into the student’s cognitive, physical and behaviour concerns. 

  • Keep observation records on student’s learning to assist the classroom teacher in their programming and assessments. 

  • Maintain a communication diary with the parent/caregiver to be overseen by the classroom teacher.

  • Contribute to Individual Education Plan Meetings to plan and evaluate the student’s learning goals.

  • Be abreast with current technologies and assist student/ students in using these technologies for the benefit of their learning.

  • Under the guidance of the classroom teacher liaise and plan with outside providers to assist in the development of a student.

  • Supervise small group and individual activities under the direction of the Teacher-in-Charge.

  • Assist children in developing independent skills in self organisation e.g. dressing, toileting, eating, preparing for class and daily routines.

The successful candidate will: 

  • Hold a current Working with Children Check 

  •  ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence 

  • Completed Certificate IV Education Assistants course at a recognised training institution.

  • Computer knowledge is desirable

  • Ability to work in a co-operative team environment
