Description

With connected technology now being used in the majority of classrooms, it’s critical for schools to increase their understanding about keeping student data safe, including clear insight into what data is being collected, stored and shared by edtech vendors, and what those companies might make of that data. Many EdTech applications and software are designed to make collecting, sharing and storing of student data easier than ever before, facilitating and increasing the potential for data breaches. Even with proper safeguards, the multiple stages through which student data flows is highly vulnerable and open to potentially volatile privacy breaches. These privacy breaches can led to reputation damage to the school, and even worse, concern of a student’s safety and wellbeing.

THIS WORKSHOP WILL:
It is important that schools have established policies and practices in place, including training for teachers and other staff, who have the responsibility to vet websites and apps that collect or host student information. By participating in this workshop you will:
● Have a general understanding of privacy legislation and how this relates to the education sector.
● Build confidence towards, and be able to implement your school’s procedures when responding to a data breach incident.
● Strengthen your understanding of data privacy compliance to meet legal, technical and moral obligations to safeguard student data.
● Gain insight towards school and teacher accountability towards data privacy, safety and security, particularly when adopting vendors into classroom programs.
● Be provided with a selection of resources to strengthen understanding toward data privacy and protection.

Please bring to the workshop, policy documentation & incident response documentation.

A light Afternoon Tea will be provided

This workshop is presented by Dean McDonald  at RTG an AISWA 'BrightBytes' partner in the delivery of the Digital Privacy, Safety and Security module.
