AISWA staff has created two literacy support documents in order to improve AISWA’s consultancy to schools. We hope these two documents offer a coherent message regarding what is meant by literacy, debunk some myths about languages learning and give some simple strategies to support the teaching of literacy.
The first document is AISWA’s Guiding Principles for Teaching Literacy and the second is a Second Language Learning Facts and Strategies document. Both documents are attached below. We hope that you can use these documents to support your school in developing a whole school strategic plan for literacy which encompasses the first language the child learns, the English language and any new language the child learns at school.
