AISWA Languages Teachers' Stories

  • Strategic Planning

How is successful language learning achieved? Dr Lindy Norris from Murdoch University developed a visual representation of six factors that, her research indicated, enabled successful language learning in a school context in Australia

Many independent schools in WA have been using the model to examine and improve on their own school’s situation. In October 2013 Lindy and Claire Leong spent some time reviewing the fishbone model and updating it to reflect contemporary understandings around language learning and new resources available to teachers and schools.

How does your school measure up against these factors? Can you see a fishbone that needs to be fleshed out in your context? Let us know if we have missed anything and also how you go using this tool in your own school for strategic planning.
