Description

An afternoon webinar re: compliance considerations regarding digital privacy/security risks and regulations in schools.

Anxiety about cyber-attacks is driving school demands towards stronger data governance and security practices. In a recent survey, RTG asked 170 IT Managers what their biggest challenges being faced in a post-COVID school environment are, with 81% worrying they will be the target of a cyber security incident. In addition, 1 in 3 managers indicated having low confidence in their school’s general approach to data governance, with 76% saying they do not adopt a formalised Privacy Program.

Data security cannot be viewed as a static issue solved by technology. Instead, it must be approached as an endeavour that evolves and improves as the cyber threat environment and your organisational needs change. In this 45-minute session, RTG will provide an overview of local and global data privacy and security frameworks, and how these can be used to inform your own Privacy Programs to mitigate against cyber vulnerabilities that could compromise your school’s critical data and systems. Participants will be guided through a series of scenarios where you will be prompted to assess current security controls and practices being adopted at your school, encouraging you to reflect on your preparedness to respond to potential threats.

In this session we will:

  • Define the difference between data privacy and data security.
  • Understand local and global data privacy and security frameworks (such as NIST, ISO27001, ACSC ISM) and how these relate to the Australian school setting.
  • Explore the core features of an effective, school-based Privacy Program - people, processes and technology.
  • Present several scenarios to assess current structures and controls being adopted at your school, and their effectiveness on protecting and securing your systems and data ecosystem.

There will be an opportunity for Q and A after the main presentation.

The Teams webinar link will be sent to registered participants two days before the event.

You are not required to be an O365 or Teams user. There is a web-based option for joining Teams.
