The Anika Foundation

Through the generosity of The Anika Foundation, applications are invited for The Anika Foundation Youth Depression Awareness Scholarship WA for 2016.

Teachers currently teaching secondary school aged students at risk of depression and school psychologists working with secondary school aged students at risk of depression are eligible to apply.

The $15 000 scholarship is for (up to) a four week study program in Australia or overseas. Time need not all be spent in formal study but may involve a program of visits to schools and institutions to conduct interviews, observe exemplary practices and collect resources for preparing teaching materials related to a specific aspect of youth depression awareness. The study program must be completed within 12 months of being awarded and a further three months for report submission.

Telethon Speech & Hearing Public Seminar Series - Building Resilience In Children

We have often heard the word 'Resilience' and when we do, we repond with thought around wanting more of it. This fun, interactive and informative seminar is aimed at parents and educators and will answer questions such as: What is resilience? What are the benefits of being resilient? How can I develop this in myself, my child or my students?

Music For Grey Matter: A Music Teacher PD Day at Guildford Grammar School

Music for Grey Matter: A music teacher PD day, will be held at the Guildford Grammar School of Music from 9.00am-3.00pm on Thursday 15th September. This PD is designed for classroom teachers, instrumental teachers, music education students and tertiary music students who want to explore different approaches and pedagogies in the field of music teaching. Australia Day WA 

Australia Day WA is presenting our first ‘schools only’ Free Student Forum featuring the current WA Australians of the Year at The Octagon Theatre, UWA on Tuesday 25 October 2016 from 1.15pm – 3pm. 
 
This inspirational forum is best positioned for students in Years 9 and 10 and will highlight the importance of community engagement, strong personal values and supports civics and citizenship education.
 
This outstanding group recently undertook a successful Tour of Honour to the Great Southern Region and feedback from schools commented on their fantastic interaction with students and appropriate messaging. Stephen Langford (WA Local Hero) speaks on challenging yourself to be innovative, Graham Edwards (WA Senior Australian of the Year) has strong relatable stories on mateship, Catherine Hughes (WA Young Australian of the Year) overcame such personal tragedy and shares her experience with social media (both good and bad) and Anne Carey (WA Australian of the Year) tells of her experiences in war-torn regions and encourages all to have the ‘courage to be kind’ and relates this back to workplace and school bullying.
