Bringing Poems to Life | May - June 2023

AISWA is pleased to launch our Bringing Poems to Life workshops with Dr Beverly Derewianka. These workshops will consist of two full days in May/June, with collaboration and assistance. We are looking to host a series in Perth and in the South West Region. Please see more information in the prospectus. If schools or individual teachers would like to explore how poets use language to bring poetry to life and how students can do the same, please fill out the How to Apply form on Page 3 and return it before March 29th.

Reading Australia Fellow for Teachers of English and Literacy | Applications close 1 pm, 8 May

The $15,000 Reading Australia Fellowship is offered by the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund to support professional skills development and career-enhancing opportunities for teachers. It’s open to English and literacy teachers and teacher librarians who are currently working in a primary or secondary school and have at least five years of experience.

Make Your Own Story Book | Closing 9 June 2023

The Make Your Own Story Book Competition is held annually and attracts entries from young people statewide. It includes categories for picture books and story books. This competition is open to all WA students from Pre Primary to Year 8. Please see the website for more info.

CBCA Book Awards Shadow Judging

Shadow judging is open to all Australian students. If you’d like to get your students involved with the CBCA Shadow Judging project and want to find out more about it here is the link to a four-minute promotional video, or sign up on the website.

Plain English Speaking Award | Registrations close 1 April

PESA is a public speaking competition open to students in years 11 and 12. The winner of the WA Award will represent the state in August this year in an Australian capital city. The winner of the National competition receives funding to participate in an international competition organised by the English Speaking Union of London. Please click  Here for more information

Effective Prevention of & Response to Bullying in Schools Workshop | 11 May

This workshop provides participants with current knowledge and hands-on skills to implement practical and effective interventions to address bullying and enhance relationships. Research is translated into effective school practices. Please click  Here for more information and to register.

Grant Opportunity - Student Science Engagement and International Competitions | Closing 5 pm, 5 April

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources has released a grant opportunity for primary and secondary schools. The grants give schools the funds to sponsor a student or group of students to participate in engagement events, activities, and competitions in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
