Funding Opportunity for Schools

Schools Plus grant applications close on 20 August

Schools seeking funding for strategic projects that improve student outcomes can now apply for a Smart Giving grant through Schools Plus.Funding from $20,000 to $60,000 will be available for schools across Australia. Webinar: John Somerset - How to strategise in changing times

John Somerset from Somerset Education will be running a 1.5-hour webinar (via Teams) on Monday, 23 August, at 4.00 pm (AWST)
John is a highly accomplished 'numbers man' and well-regarded in the Independent schools’ sector as an expert in his field. His passion for the sector stimulated completion of a master's by research on the attributes of a financially sustainable school and his current PhD studies to predict financial sustainability in Australian Independent Schools. For more information and to register for this webinar please click Here 

 

2021 Online School Marketing Training Series

AISWA has contracted ImageSeven, a specialised marketing and branding organisation, to deliver a series of three 90-minute masterclasses for AISWA schools.

Topics are as follows:

Session 1 (26 August): How to bring media strategy to your media purchasing to improve campaign effectiveness.

Session 2 (23 September): Harnessing the potential of your Alumni community.

Session 3 (28 October): Creating a powerful website.

Each session will be held live from 10.00-11.30am.  The sessions will include a 75-80 minute presentation by ImageSeven, followed by 10-15 minutes of Q&A at the end. Sessions will be recorded and made available to registered attendees after each event.

Young Carer Bursary Program – Applications open 16 August

There are over 235,000 young carers in Australia (12-25yrs) with young carers’ educational attainment on average, two years behind other students if they have been in a caring role for five years or more.

The Young Carer Bursary Program supports young carers to return to or continue with their education. The program offers 1,000 bursaries of $3,000 each year. It is not income tested and is awarded based on the greatest need. Applicants must be a young carer and meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 12 – 25 years old for the entire time they are receiving the bursary

  • Studying at the high school level or beyond, up to and including a first undergraduate degree

  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident

  • Not receiving another scholarship

UNESCO survey for Australian teachers on Intercultural Understanding

Cultural Infusion is partnering with UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, on a Review of Australian Educational Policy and Curricula for Intercultural Understanding, one of the seven general capabilities of the F-10 Curriculum in Australia. 

The project supports the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals aimed at ending extreme poverty, reducing inequality, and protecting the planet by 2030. In particular, Target 4.7 promotes the knowledge and skills needed for global citizenship, appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.

2021 Tim Winton Award for Young Writers  

Entries into the 2021 Tim Winton Award for Young Writers opened on Monday 19 July at 9.30am. West Australian school students in years one to twelve are invited to submit an original story of up to 2000 words in length.

Judges are looking for creative entries, with original themes, excellent story development and quality writing.

To enter, register your details online and upload your story at Here  by Friday 13 August, 5.30pm. If you prefer to submit a physical copy of your story, register online and print your entry confirmation before submitting your story to Subiaco Library.
