Kate Mullin Educator Award Flyer
The Kate Mullin Award has been created in memory of Kate Mullin, a passionate and visionary EALD consultant who made significant improvements in the teaching of Indigenous literacy in Western Australia. This award aims to recognise and celebrate educators who demonstrate excellence in the teaching of English to Aboriginal students, whose first language may be Aboriginal English, an Aboriginal Language or a creole such as the Kimberley Kriol. The educator can self-nominate or be nominated by a line-manager, colleague, student or community member. For more information, please click Here
Australian Teacher Workforce Data Teacher Survey 2022
The Australian Teacher Workforce Data (ATWD) initiative is providing insights into the national teacher workforce to identify how to better support the profession. The annual ATWD Teacher Survey is the opportunity for every teacher to share their story and insights. It's 'the teacher voice' in the ATWD. Teachers can access the survey by visiting the TRBWA website, trb.wa.gov.au and signing in to Teacher Login. Once in Teacher Login, they can select the ATWD Teacher Survey tab at the top of the page and start the survey. This is a voluntary ten-minute survey. For more information please click Here

The Power of Story Sundowner
You are invited to join AISWA and Reading Australia for a Power of Story Sundowner on October 27th at the Tradewinds Fremantle.
Reading Australia develop units of work designed to help teachers navigate Australian texts within the framework of the Australian Curriculum. They include curriculum codes, sample classroom and assessment activities and links to other relevant online resources to assist with teaching and engaging students across a suggested time frame. Reading Australia champions Australia’s rich literary history and presents thoughtful, stimulating, challenging, and sometimes provocative literary works. These reflect the stories we tell as a nation and connect teachers with diverse and robust voices. Celebrate Reading Conference in Fremantle, 28-29 October
The Literature Centre’s Celebrate Reading Conference will be held in Fremantle on 28-29 October 2022. Presenters include: Morris Gleitzman, Jackie French AM, Marc McBride, Kirli Saunders, Sean E. Avery, Cristy Burne, Gabriel Evans, Deb Fitzpatrick, James Foley, Dr Helen Milroy and Dianne Wolfer.
Delegates attend all panels and solos as there are no concurrent sessions. There will be discussions on key issues in Australian children's literature including: the importance of First Nations voices, writing for diverse learning abilities, history meets imagination, reaching the digital child with story, insights into creating new work, and more!
This conference will provide teachers the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of Australian picture books and junior fiction, particularly their importance in the classroom. There is a single day registration option at $330 per person or the full two day program for $550 per person (Standard).

Whole of School Healthy Eating Program – Stakeholder Advisory Group
The WA Department of Health is seeking a representative from the Association of Independent Schools of WA to join a Stakeholder Advisory Group for a new Whole of School Healthy Eating Program which aims to support all schools to create healthy food environments, and to deliver nutrition education. Premiers Reading Challenge
The challenge will run from May to 9 September 2022. You can take part if you are in Kindergarten up to Year 10, whether you go to your local public school, private school or if you are educated at home.
