Tim Winton Award for Writers
The City of Subiaco presents the 30th annual Tim Winton Award for Young Writers. This creative writing award is open to Western Australian school students and encourages imagination, innovation and creativity. Entries for the Tim Winton Awards open at 9.30am on Monday 18 July.To enter, register and submit your work online before 5.30pm on Friday 12 August. For more information please click Here
The Sound of Picture Books
The Sound of Picture Books will be returning to The Literature Centre and traveling to Bunbury this September. It was developed in partnership with artist Matt Ottley and is a multi-modal and immersive performance that combines music, visual images, and narration that brings picture books to life. These unique performances are tailored to the age groups attending and reveal the story behind the story.
This year two books will be featured, How to Make a Bird by Meg McKinlay and Matt Ottley, and Afloat in Venice by Tina Wilson.

Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week Opening and Dinner
Friday 19th August, Ambrose Estate at 6:30pm.
Join CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) for an evening of entertainment, conversation, delicious food, amazing raffles, door prizes and costume fun to celebrate the CBCA Book of the Year award winners. Featuring Guest speaker Briony Stewart author and illustrator, who has donated a very special art piece to the CBCA WA Branch which will be offered via Silent Auction with the winning bid announced at the Dinner. This original crayon, ink and watercolour painting of the delightful dog, Magoo from We love you, Magoo and Where are you, Magoo is unique in that the illustrations for the books were coloured digitally, making this a true collector’s item.

Would you like to be the owner of a magnificent signed original art work by talented and generous WA author and illustrator Briony Stewart?
This original crayon, ink and watercolour painting is of Magoo, the delightful dog from "We Love You Magoo" and "Where are You Magoo" written and illustrated by Briony Stewart. This A3 original work is unique as Magoo was coloured digitally for publication. The frame measures 62 cm x 45cm. The photo is intended as a guide only and does not do the work full justice.

WA // WIN $10,000 for shade at your school in 2022!
The Cancer Council shade competition has been running since 2012 to encourage schools to embed and promote SunSmart behaviours as part of the SunSmart schools program. Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme (PHMSS) - Scholarship Opportunity for First Nations students
The Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme (PHMSS) is designed to encourage and assist students in health-related disciplines to complete their studies and join the health workforce. The scheme provides scholarships for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people studying an entry level health course. The Australian Government established the Scheme as a tribute to the late Dr Arnold ‘Puggy’ Hunter. Applications open on Monday 29 August 2022 for studies undertaken in 2023, closing Monday 10 October 2022. Online applications will be available Here once the scheme opens.
Celebrate Reading Conference in Fremantle, 28-29 October
The Literature Centre’s Celebrate Reading Conference will be held in Fremantle on 28-29 October 2022. Presenters include: Morris Gleitzman, Jackie French AM, Marc McBride, Kirli Saunders, Sean E. Avery, Cristy Burne, Gabriel Evans, Deb Fitzpatrick, James Foley, Dr Helen Milroy and Dianne Wolfer.
Delegates attend all panels and solos as there are no concurrent sessions. There will be discussions on key issues in Australian children's literature including: the importance of First Nations voices, writing for diverse learning abilities, history meets imagination, reaching the digital child with story, insights into creating new work, and more!
This conference will provide teachers the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of Australian picture books and junior fiction, particularly their importance in the classroom. There is a single day registration option at $330 per person or the full two day program for $550 per person (Standard).

Premiers Reading Challenge
The challenge will run from May to 9 September 2022. You can take part if you are in Kindergarten up to Year 10, whether you go to your local public school, private school or if you are educated at home. By taking part in the challenge and recording the books you've read, you will be in the running to win some fantastic prizes, including family holidays and experiences across Western Australia.
