Taskforce Tackles Teacher Supply Issue


Federal Labour Party's education policy paper, "New Directions for Our Schools", was released on March 19th 2007.  An excerpt from the executive Summary is shown below:

Education is the key to maintaining our economic and social prosperity in an increasingly globalised and competitive world.

Australia must increase the number of exceptional school graduates, the average performance of our school graduates and reduce the number of those who fail to complete secondary schooling.

The economic research suggests that technological innovations, improving infrastructure and building human capital are where the greatest opportunities for productivity growth lie.

Demand for choice and diversity in schooling

Australian Bureau of Statistics data released today show enrolments in the independent schools sector continue to grow strongly, said Mr Bill Daniels, Executive Director of the Independent Schools Council of Australia.
