General Information:
The Independent School Nurses' Association (ISNA) was initially established in 1993 by a small group of nurses working in Independent Schools to enable a sharing of ideas and establish a support network. Since then, the number of member schools within
- to promote the provision of an optimum standard of health care in all Independent Schools
- to identify potential legal issues and situations and to formulate relevant guidelines
- to plan and implement educational and further development programs related to the specialty of school nursing
- to encourage research and evaluation on new equipment, products and methods in the health setting
- to facilitate and encourage co-operation with nurses and other health professionals employed in Government Schools.
An Executive Committee, catering to the administration of all affairs of the Association, is elected from the current membership at the Annual General Meeting, held in July each year. Membership fee is currently $15 per person and falls due at the AGM. Meetings are usually held once per term with an invited guest speaker to provide ongoing professional development and any relevant updates. The duty of the elected Education Officer is to keep members informed of other existing professional development opportunities. ISNA conducts re-accreditation for Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation on an annual basis. A register of nurses willing to work as relief staff in other schools is also available.
Currently, ISNA is looking at establishing guidelines for Nurses in Independent Schools and at developing a website with links to other relevant sites.
