- Total expenditure by governments, State and Commonwealth, on school education was $30.8 billion in 2004-05.
- 78.5% was spent on government school students who accounted for 67.2% of student enrolments.
- 21.5% went to non-government school students who accounted for 32.8% of student enrolments.
- Government expenditure per student in independent schools was, on average, some 47% of that for students attending government schools.
On average, parents and donors in independent school communities in 2005 contributed 87% of funds for capital developments such as school buildings, grounds and equipment. (Independent Schooling in Australia 2007, ISCA)
