Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the Disability Standards for Education (DSE)

Learning Area

The Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005) are important pieces of federal legislation that schools should consider when enrolling and catering for students with disabilities and learning difficulties. The DSE was recently reviewed and a major finding was that schools continue to misunderstand their legal obligations and need further support to meet these obligations into the future. This session will examine the legislation and offer guidelines in the areas that school leaders and teachers may wish to consider when reviewing their policies and procedures.
